MEETING ON FRIDAY 22nd JUNE 2018 AT ST BREWARD VILLAGE HALL

Enclosed is an invitation to our next meeting at St Breward Village Hall (PL30 4LY).  The illustrated talk is entitled “In the Footsteps of George St Gray: Re-discovering the Stripple Stones Circle” and will be given by David Attwell who has spent his working life helping to manage the environment of North Cornwall for local charities, North Cornwall District Council and then Cornwall Council and most recently as a selfemployed contractor.  David is fascinated by Bodmin Moor and in particular its history and environment which is constantly evolving.  His talk will focus on a project to enhance the setting and management of the Stripple Stones circle on Hawkstor, considered by some archaeologists to be the County’s most interesting and significant monument, which was undertaken with the landowners and Historic England between 2015 and 2016.

I look forward to seeing many of you at the meeting and, as usual, there will be refreshments and a glass of wine and coffee included in the price.  Please return the reply slip and your cheque to Nicola in good time, but at the latest by Monday 18th June.

URGENT NEED FOR SECRETARIAL SUPPORT

You may remember that in my newsletter in January I put out a plea for someone to come forward to take over Nicola’s job as Secretary.  To date there has been no response, although one or two of our trustees have agreed to become responsible for the bookkeeping, membership registration and gift aid claims.  So the workload has reduced somewhat and might therefore not seem as daunting as before.  Please be in touch if you now feel this is a job you might care to do – we need you!

PLANNING UPDATE

Wind and Solar:  The application for a 77m turbine at Hendraburnick Farm, Davidstow was thankfully refused permission very shortly after publication of our last newsletter.  Thank you once again to all those members who supported our campaign and objected along with the Society.

As before the judicial wrangling over the Week St. Mary windfarm application still continues and there doesn’t appear to be a final decision expected any time soon.

Housing:  Two of the Wadebridge housing applications, Gonvena and the Football Field, are apparently to be decided by the Strategic Planning Committee although no dates are given.

The third, a pre-application for advice at Bodieve, has now been advised and a full application is expected in the near future.

As in the last newsletter, at present there is nothing particularly significant to report from other areas.  There are some applications in the system for small extensions, new buildings, rebuilds and even larger developments that could possibly pose a risk to the beauty of our area of concern.  These will be monitored to gauge parish opinion before deciding on a course of action, if any.  There are also a few pre-applications for developments.  These are requests for advice from the planning department and, although we cannot comment on them at this stage, the advice given will be studied in preparation for any full application.

As always, please tell us if there is any application in your village or Parish that you have concerns about. We will always take the time to assess the application for its impact on our area. Most importantly though, members must object themselves, along with neighbours, and not rely on a single Society objection to produce the desired outcome.
